RGV Red Crowns - 2, BTX SC - 0

The RGV Red Crowns are headed to the South Texas Conference Championship for the first time in program history after defeating BTX SC 2 - 0 in Saturday's semifinal match.

The two teams battled through a tightly contested first half with both defenses standing firm and neither side able to find the back of the net, sending the match into a "Ni fu, Ni Fa" halftime 0 - 0 score.

The Red Crowns broke through just three minutes into the second half when Diego Rivera found the back of the net to give the home team a 1 - 0 lead.

John Alvarado added an insurance goal with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.  His powerful strike was partially deflected by the BTX goalkeeper, but still rolled into the back of the net.  John's goal brought the home fans to their feet.  It lifted the spirit of the home crowd.  The goal was Alvarado's fifth in his last three matches and secured the Red Crowns historic victory.

With the win, the Red Crowns advance to face top-seeded Capital City Sc in the South Texas Conference Championship on Sunday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Prep Academy in Austin.

BTX SC closes an impressive League for Clubs campaign with a semifinal appearance, while the Red Crowns move one step closer to a conference title.

A Journey Built on Faith, Sacrifice, and Soccer

Coach Elías Moran's journey began in the humble neighborhood of La Fama II in Santa Catarina, Monterrey, Mexico, where dusty streets, empty lots, and caliche fields became his first stadiums.  With simple rock goalposts and an old soccer ball, he learned the game with passion, imagination, and heart.

Those early years shaped his character.  The difficult conditions taught him resilience, discipline, humility, and a competitive spirit that would later define his playing and coaching career.  His talent opened doors, including opportunities to compete in the Copa Internacional Monterrey in 1993 and later in the United States in 1995.

In 1997, at only 15 years old, Morán moved to the United States with hope, uncertainty, and the dream of a better future.  He attended Edinburg North High School, where soccer helped him overcome language and cultural barriers.  As a Cougar, he became part of the historic team that won the first District Championship in school history during the 2000 - 2001 school year.

After graduating, coach Morán continued his education at the Texas-Pan American University while working multiple jobs.  Through sacrifice and perseverance, he earned his bachelor's degree in Spanish with minors in Kinesiology and Studio Art.

His coaching career began at La Joya Juárez-Lincoln as a Spanish teacher and assistant soccer coach.  Years later, he returned to his alma mater, Edinburg North, to lead the program that once gave him an opportunity.

Under his leadership, the Cougars have enjoyed some of the most successful years in school history, winning multiple district titles, playoff championships, and making historic runs including three Regional Semifinal appearances (Sweet 16), and two Regional Finals (Elite 8).

Beyond the trophies, Coach Moran's greatest mission is to inspire young athletes to believe in themselves, embrace adversity, and never give up.  From the streets of Cempoala to the sidelines of Edinburg North, his story is a powerful reminder that faith, humility, hard work, and perseverance can turn dreams into reality.

Jamás rendirse es la misión.

Debra Galván - Living the dream at Harlingen South

For Harlingen South Lady Hawks Head Girls Soccer Coach Debra Galván, soccer has never been just a game, it has been a lifelong passion and a dream fulfilled.

Galvan's soccer journey began in the Arroyo Youth Soccer League at the age of 10, where she proudly played for the Lady Panthers and the Celtics.  Those early experiences ignited a love for the sport that would shape her future.  As a student-athlete at Harlingen South High School, she competed on the varsity team all four years and helped lead the Lady Hawks to an Elite Eight appearance during her senior season in 2003.

Even as a young player, Galvan knew she wanted to become a soccer coach.  More importantly, she dreamed of one day coaching at her alma mater, Harlingen South.

After graduating, she attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she made the team as a walk on but a knee injury prevented her from playing her senior year.  She earned her career as a science teacher.  Her coaching journey started at the sub-varsity level spending three years coaching the JV Light team and another three years coaching the JV dark squad, developing young athletes and building a foundation for future success.

Galván later accepted the challenge of becoming the Head Girls Soccer Coach at Harlingen High School, where she spent seven successful seasons guiding the Lady Cardinals program.  Today, she is in her fourth year leading the Harlingen South Lady Hawks, bringing her coaching career full circle.

Along the way, Galván made history as the first female head soccer coach to lead varsity programs at both Harlingen High schools.  It is an accomplishment she cherishes, but one that pales in comparison to the opportunity she has had to impact the lives of countless student-athletes.

Over the course of her coaching career, Galván has found great fulfillment in helping players grow both on and off the field.  She takes pride in instilling a love for the game while teaching valuable life lessons through teamwork, commitment, and perseverance.  One of her greatest rewards has been watching former players continue their soccer careers at the collegiate level and hearing about their success long after graduation.

In ten years as a varsity head coach, Galvan's teams have captured five consecutive district championships; two at Harlingen High School, and three at Harlingen South.  her programs have consistently qualified for the playoffs including a Sweet 16 appearance this past season.

Galvan is quick to credit her success to the support system around her.  She is deeply grateful to her husband and two sons, whose encouragement and sacrifices have allowed her to dedicate hersef fully to coaching.  She also recognizes the tremendous contributions of her assistant coaches at both Harlingen schools, whose hard work and commitment have been instrumental to the success of her teams.

While coaching can be demanding, Galvan considers it one of the most rewarding professions imaginable.  Together with her coaching staff, she remains committed to continuing the proud tradition of Harlingen South soccer, developing future Lady Hawks, and pursuing deep playoff runs for years to come.

For Coach Debra Galván, the dream she envisioned as a young Lady Hawk has become a reality, and her story continues to inspire the next generation of players who wear the green and orange.

2026 RGVSCO EAST GIRLS ALL-STAR TEAM

The Last Dance.

The 2026 RGVSCO Boys and Girls All-Star Games were a tremendous success.  Despite a one-hour delay caused by nearby thunderstorms and heavy rain, the girls' contest began with an outstanding display of talent, skill, and determination.  Every player showcased her abilities with passion and enthusiasm, keeping the crowd on its feet throughout the match.  Parents proudly cheered for their daughters as they competed in what was, for many, their final high school soccer game, a memorable "last dance" filled with emotion and excitement.

The boys' game kicked off shortly after lunchtime and delivered another spectacular showcase of Río Grande Valley soccer talent.  Fans thoroughly enjoyed watching the East and West All-Star teams compete with intensity, pride, and heart.  The passing storm seemed like a theater curtain opening the main event, setting the stage for an unforgettable performance.  Every player gave maximum effort and left everything on the field, making the contest exciting and memorable for everyone in attendance.

Several college coaches were also in the stands, carefully evaluating the athletes and their potential for the next level.

To all of the boys and girls players, RGVSCO sincerely thanks you for participating in the All-Star Games and wishes each of you the very best in the future.  Life is filled with challenges and opportunities.  Never give up on your dreams.  Whether rich or poor, success comes through sacrifice, discipline, responsibility and hard work.  Invest your time wisely, stay focused, and avoid anything that interferes with your goals.  Believe in yourselves and continue striving to become the best version of who you can be.  As Río Grande Valley La Joya soccer and football Canadian professional kicker says, "Have a Chingón Mindset'.  YOU CAN DO IT !  No matter your background, remember that God believes in you.  Have faith in yourself.  Never give up.  Make your parents proud, and always remember that one of the greatest achievements in life is earning a college degree.

The Río Grande Valley Soccer Coaches Organization also extends its heartfelt appreciation to coach Elías Morán for his tremendous help in creating the beautiful All-Star Game programs, to all RGVSCO board members, stadium personnel, and especially coach Juan Romero, athletic Director of Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District, for helping make this special event possible at the historic and famous Yellow Jackets Stadium.

LADY COUGARS - DISTRICT CHAMPIONS 2026

A DREAM COME TRUE

From coach Mariana Watson ENHS Girls Soccer Coach:

The Journey to a District Championship every season begins with hope, but this one began with purpose.

Five years ago, when I stepped into the role of head coach at Edinburg North High School, I envisioned building a program defined not just by wins, but by character, commitment, and growth.  Ten years into my career, I have learned that teams are built long before championship moments -  They are built in the quiet work, the early mornings, the setbacks, and the belief that something greater is possible.  This year's group of ten seniors embodied that belief.

I have watched them grow from timid freshmen - unsure, eager, learning - to confident leaders who know exactly what they are capable of.  Season after season, they dedicated themselves to improvement.  They stayed late, pushed one another, embraced challenges, and held themselves accountable to the standard they were helping to create. They wanted to make history, not just for themselves, but for our campus, our program, and every girl who would wear this jersey after them.

Last year was a turning point.  We had a record-breaking run, capturing the Bi-District Championship and advancing to the Area round - an accomplishment that proved our potential.

But the loss in Area stuck with us.  It stung, not in a way that defeated us, but in a way that fueled us.  My athletes caried that memory into every conditioning session, every practice, and every moment of preparation leading into this season.  At the very beginning, we agreed on our expectations.

This year, we would capture the district title and we would advance in the playoffs.

From the first whistle of preseason, something felt different.  We started strong, not just technically, but emotionally.  The girls trusted one another.  They communicated.  They held each other to a championship standard, and in doing so, strengthened their bond as a team.

Then came the Border Olympics Tournament - an event etched into the history of ENHS.  The last time Edinburg North had claimed that title, I was the one wearing the jersey.  This time, I watched with pride as our girls fought, adapted, and ultimately lifted that trophy.  In that moment, I saw the past and present of the program come full circle.  And I knew: this team was special.  District play tested us, sharpened us, and united us.  Adversity didn't divide us - it pulled us closer.  Our only loss during district play vs Weslaco H.S. with 10 players on the field was our eye opener, we knew that game wasn't the game we play.  This is where we understood as a team that sacrifice and discipline needed to be fortified from that moment on every athlete, whether a senior or an underclassman, understood her role in our vision.  Every girl was willing to sacrifice for the big picture.  They played not for themselves, but for each other, and when we met Weslaco HS again, in the second round, we took care of business.

And together, we finished the season on top.  They brought home the district championship = something earned not in a single match, but in four years of resilience, loyalty, and heart.  My seniors, the backbone of our program, leave behind a legacy built on discipline, leadership and belief.  They achieved what they once only dreamed of as freshmen, and they did it by rising as a united team.  They have also engraved these proud tenants in the culture and our underclassmen are doing an amazing job continuing the culture we have at ENHS.

This season was more than a journey.  It was a statement.  A reminder that greatness isn't accidental - it's intentional, determined, and deeply shared.

As their coach, I couldn't be prouder.  These ten seniors will graduate having changed the trajectory of ENHS soccer forever.  And as they move on, they leave behind a message to every future Cougar:  work hard, trust the process, believe in your team, and make history.

LA CIMA ES NUESTRA - PORTER CAMPEON 2026

PORTER - 3, WESLACO EAST - 1
